The road to Melbourne
We did a road trip form Sydney to Melbourne making lots of stops along the way. Australian coast was a lot different than we expected. We expected to see a desert like landscape but instead we saw rolling hills, crops and livestock for about 1,200 miles all the way down to Melbourne.
One of the highlights was seeing hundreds of wild kangaroos along the way. It was actually a bit of a driving hazard but we didn’t mind since it was such a spectacle every time we saw them. We pulled over countless times along the way and took plenty of pics of the beautiful creatures and vistas.
One of our stops was Australia rock where there is a standing rock with the outline of Australia eroded away in the middle of it. While here we saw lots of seals sunbathing on the rocks and even saw a couple of the bulls get into a fight right in front of us!
The Peninsula
Philip Island and the Peninsula were the biggest highlight for us on the road trip. We ended up spending a few days out here exploring the coast and staying in some of the most romantic and beautiful places we have ever seen!
There are beautiful view points and parks all over this area. One of our favorites was Pyramid rock. We followed a path along the spine of a hill all the way out to a viewpoint were you see lots of seabirds landing on the rock itself.
One of our days on the peninsula we spent at the Peninsula Hot Springs and it was soo nice! We absolutely recommend spending a day here and be sure to book a table for lunch here too. There are lots of different hot mineral spring pools to choose from, with ice cold dunk pools to cool down it. We loved out experience here!
Where to stay:
We had the privilege of staying at a couple extremely beautiful properties while we were on the Peninsula and would recommend them to you for the ultimate experience while you are here!
Woodman Estate – Live in the Moment
Properties like this are hard to find anywhere in the world! we stayed at this beautiful boutique hotel and LOVED it! This estate is situated on 50 acres with its own little lake right in the middle of it. There is even a rowboat you can take out for a romantic sunset row (which we did of course). They have a French chef here that created one of the most delicious plated breakfasts we have ever had! Be sure to splurge a little here an go for one of the suites.
Lindenderry at Red Hill – Pure luxury
We spent one of our nights on the peninsula here and had one of the most delicious dinners we can remember. We spent the entire day simply enjoying the park like setting of the property. There is also a beautiful vineyard here that we wandered through and had a little fun in. The rooms of this hotel are pure luxury with all the bells and whistles you would expect to come with a hotel of this caliber.
